Drivers Made To Hear Their Own Honking As A Punishment: Initiative By Karnataka Cops Sparks A Debate

The Police has been on the lookout for drivers who have been excessively honking and instructing them to listen to their own horns while standing close by

A recent video that has gone viral over the internet has showcased how the constabulary in Karnataka has relegated the Local bus drivers to listen to their own horn honking. The aim behind the exercise was to warn drivers against such issues and critically help them improve their habits while driving.

Social media users have commented about how the exercise could have been detrimental to the drivers but the majority of the users online seemed to be in its favor.

Users Critical of The Horns and Honking

The users also commented about how there is no check upon the kind of horns that have been installed on the busses and auto’s. The users have themselves installed horns that do not conform to any kind of restrictions and can be detrimental to the passerby’s in and around the busses. This could be a major problem. Some even raised concerns about the the laxity in Bus and auto construction rules. Where in India a user can buy a chassis from any big manufacturer and construct a body as per their own necessities. While in the world over the trucks and commercial vehicles also have to go through testing just like commercial cars.

In foreign countries if in case drivers are involved in accidents the insurance premium for the said vehicle would rise significantly and beyond that the driver’s actions and convictions would be enlisted on his history and license so that his employers know of his past misdemeanors wherever he goes.

Vietnam’s Unique Solution For the Problem

Vietnam has announced a new system in which a traffic violation reporter would get paid by the government. While this might seem like a step enabling snitching, it could be the possible solution for minor traffic demeanors.

As per the news the traffic police would pay a percentage of the fine levied on the defaulters, to civilians who hand over video graphic proof of the defaulter road users. The scheme has been launched recently and has been aimed to make the streets safer for better overall traffic conditions.

The Humble Outlook

Vietnamese Officials have also stated that if in case any additional money is raised by this system, the government would use if for improving the road conditions. The government officials shared ideas of how the additional cash would be sued for the development of information systems and the maintenance of databases for easy tracking and future recognition of defaulters.

As per the news releases its possible for onlookers to earn above 200$’s for reporting said crimes. The reward as of yet has been capped at 10% of the total levied fine per case.
