Mid Life Cycles Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 salt racer could have been a simple Interceptor that would have spent its life pottering around and fulfilling the daily needs of its rider. Rather, it was stripped and put through a series of changes to achieve a new High Speed Dragster that could achieve a speed record. The Interceptor in question was able to break the four year old class record on each of its runs, leaving the new mark at 132.050 MPH which translates to 212.514 Km/h
Charlie Hallam, the rider who broke the speed record was able to achieve a speed of around 121.782 MPH on his first day of competition proving the prowess of the bike. He further improved on his speed and times as the competition stages progressed. A report over the internet further revealed that the bike was built during Royal Enfield’s Busted Knuckles build off in 2019. The Bike went through a slew of extensive changes to achieve such a high speed record.
Changes Done To The Bike
One of the first changes that Mid Life cycles did to the bike included a Balanced Crankshaft with lighter and polished peened rods. To stay within the rule of the competition, the pistons of the bike were left stock, but the compression was increased with a 11:1 ratio that requires 98 RON fuel. Beyond that, the gearbox was heavily modified as well to reduce friction as much as possible.

The Combustion chamber and ports were heavily modified with a 1.5mm oversized inlet and a standard exhaust sizing. The Valves were also modified to include competition profile 1286 racing camshaft master which had enhanced lobes for better engine performance.
Beyond these changes the custom swingarm of the bike was lengthened as well by a max of 130MM. The bike was further fitted with a set of Ohlins stock suspension and a set of lightened alloy wheels that further reduced the unsprung mass. The Bike was further given custom made front and rear sprockets. Beyond that the bike was given clip on handlebars that help the rider assume an aerodynamic position.
