Know Which Indian State Has The Largest And The Lowest Number of Telephone Connections: Where Does Uttar Pradesh Stand?

Did you know which state has the largest number of telephone or mobile connections in India? The tele-density of the country is 89.2. Delhi has the highest tele-density in the country, while Bihar has the lowest. Tele-density refers to the number of telephone or mobile connections per 100 people in a particular area. Tele-density varies significantly between urban and rural areas of a nation. It is often linked to the area’s gross domestic product (GDP), meaning that higher tele-density generally indicates a greater number of people with access to telephone or mobile phone, which can correlate with higher levels of satisfaction.

India’s telecom regulator, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), has released the highlights of telecom subscription data for November 30, 2024. According to the data, the national capital has the highest tele-density at 278.07%, meaning each person has access to approximately three phones. On the other hand, Bihar has the lowest tele-density at 56.27%.

Uttar Pradesh, the state with the highest population in the country, has the second-lowest tele-density in India, standing at 65.96%. Despite this, it has the highest number of seats in the Lok Sabha.

In terms of tele-density, after Delhi, Himachal Pradesh ranks second with 119.50%, followed by Kerala at 118%, Punjab at 110.84%, Karnataka at 103.95%, Tamil Nadu at 102.09%, and Maharashtra at 100.31%.
