The Universal Account Number (UAN) is a 12-digit identifier that allows employees to manage their Provident Fund (PF) accounts. It is essential for checking PF balances or withdrawing funds. Forgetting or misplacing the UAN can lead to difficulties. To address this, the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has introduced a simple method to retrieve a lost UAN. In a social media post, EPFO informed users that they can recover their UAN by following a few straightforward steps. A QR code was also shared to provide additional information.
The UAN is very important for managing your Provident Fund (PF) and updating your account information. Because it is so important, it is best to keep it safe. The EPFO’s new system helps people who have lost or forgotten their UAN by providing an easy way to get it back. This makes it simpler for users to manage their money and ensures they can quickly access their accounts even if they don’t remember their UAN.
The EPFO posted on X, earlier this month- “If you’ve forgotten your UAN, don’t worry — it’s easy to retrieve it. Just follow a few simple steps to find out your UAN. Scan the QR code to learn more.”
To recover a lost UAN, individuals need to visit the official EPFO UAN portal. Below are the procedures that you should follow to retain the UAN.

- Go To UPFO Portal – Here!
Navigate to the ‘Services’ section
Select ‘For Employees’
Proceed to ‘Member UAN/Online Services’
Section prompts individuals to input basic information- name, date of birth, and either Aadhaar, PAN, or Member ID
You Are Almost Done!
To continue, users need to verify their mobile number by entering a one-time password (OTP). Once verified, they can choose the options ‘Know Your UAN’ and then ‘Show Your UAN’ to see their UAN on the screen. This process highlights how important it is to keep the UAN safe, as it helps people access their Provident Fund, which is an important part of their retirement or emergency savings.
