UPI Payments: Are you someone who frequently uses online payment apps? If yes, then this news is for you. In a significant move, the National Payments Corporation of India (NCPI) is reportedly going to deactivate the UPI IDs of people whose phone numbers are inactive in bank records. According to reports, UPI IDs of such users will be ousted whose numbers remained inactive for a long time. NPCI clarifies the decision will be implemented from the 1st of April.
Who Will Be Affected?
The mentioned users will not be allowed to use Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, or any other available online payment apps from the next month. Users must immediately check if their phone number is updated in the bank records or not, to avoid the discontinuation of services. The other reasons your UPI service will be subjected to the new update include the closure or changing of an old mobile number.
Do This To Reduce Risk Of Fraud
If you don’t want your UPI to be affected, then update your number linked with your respective banks as soon as possible. Reports suggest that the NPCI took this major step to reduce the risk of fraud and cybercrime from UPI IDs associated with deactivated phone nos. Hackers often try to tamper with the old UPI accounts of people, It is therefore necessary to close the old number or update it in the bank. On the other hand, instructions have been laid out for banks and payment applications by NPCI to remove the inactive number.
