In the women’s police station of the capital Patna, a young woman has lodged a case against a PG student at NMCH on charges of love jihad, fraud, assault and forced religious conversion. The girl alleges that the young man trapped her in a love trap by claiming to be a Hindu, had physical relations with her and later started pressuring her to convert to Islam.
According to the girl, she met the accused Seraj three years ago during treatment. He told his name as “Sonu” and claimed to be a Hindu. To gain her trust, he went to the ghat on the Chhath festival, offered arghya and said that he had performed Chhath for her because he wanted to marry her.
After this, the young man made love by promising marriage, but when his real identity was revealed, he said that he had hidden his religion and name for love. The young man started living with the victim and when she demanded marriage, he started beating her while pressuring her to convert.
The victim claims that she was taken to Sabzibagh and fed beef, forced to read Namaaz five times a day and learn six Kalmas. When she refused, the accused married another girl on the occasion of Eid this year.
When the girl reached the accused’s house after getting information about the marriage, his family members beat her up and said that two marriages are permissible in their religion. The girl also alleged that the accused is trying to kidnap her, due to which she is scared and is hiding here and there.
She also faced difficulty in registering an FIR. She reached the women’s police station on June 14, but the police sent her here and there for five days. Finally, on June 19, after pleading in the DGP’s Janta Darbar, an FIR was registered under sections of rape, fraud and kidnapping.
However, the girl says that despite the case being related to love jihad, sections related to it have not been added in the FIR.
Police officer Atulesh Jha (Assistant Superintendent of Police, Patna City) said that the FIR has been registered and the entire matter is being investigated seriously. Appropriate legal steps will be taken soon.
