The upcoming film Abir Gulaal casting Pakistani actor Fawad Khan has recently sparked controversy. Some political groups, including the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has opposed the film’s release in Maharashtra. Despite facing backlash the co-star of Abir Gulaal Ridhi Dogra believes the film has received “a lot more love” ever since its teaser dropped.
“The film’s tagline says, ‘Bringing love back’ Ridhi said. “The endeavour is to focus on love and the beautiful things in the world, because there is already a lot of hatred” she added.
She further shared her thoughts on the backlash “The internet has become a portal for disagreement. Everyone thinks that having an opinion means to disagree. I would like to focus on the love this film has, I hope the film is able to do what its tagline says.”

Following the 2016 Uri attacks, Indian film bodies had banned Pakistani artists. But the Bombay High Court last year dismissed a petition demanding a complete ban on Pakistani actors in Indian films.
Abir Gulaal is directed by Aarti S Bagdi and produced by Vivek Agarwal and Firuzi Khan. It is all set to hit the theaters on May 9, 2025 starring Fawad Khan, Vaani Kapoor and Ridhi Dogra. Fawad’s last Bollywood film was ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’. Directed by Karan Johar, it also starred Ranbir Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Anushka Sharma which also faced major backlash for casting a Pakistani actor.
