Filmmaker-actor Anurag Kashyap has slammed the popular music label T-Series for not valuing good music. While speaking to The Juggernaut, he revealed that he was barely paid for the music of his several hit movies despite their popularity and cult status.
He took a jibe at Bhushan Kumar and T-Series and said, “If Bhushan Kumar [Managing Director of T-Series] is not buying it, then it is good music. If T-Series is not buying it, it is great music,” Kashyap quipped, adding bluntly, “T-Series doesn’t buy good music at a good price.”
Further, he claimed that he was paid very little for his cult movies like Gangs Of Wasseypur and DevD. The filmmaker revealed, “They paid very little money for the music of DevD, Gangs of Wasseypur, and Gulaal, and they made a lot of money from the music of those films. They only pay for the star in it. They don’t pay for the quality of music. They paid nothing for DevD’s track despite the film’s music being one of the cult soundtracks.”
“The highest amount of money they have paid me was for Bombay Velvet, and the film’s music didn’t work for them, but they still paid a lot. They don’t understand good music, and they will push only for a certain kind of music,” he added.
Anurag Kashyap has openly criticised Hindi cinema and how some things work in the industry several times. In the same interview, the ‘Sacred Games’ helmer revealed that he has moved out of Mumbai and is currently happy. He shared, “I don’t meet people who are constantly talking numbers. I have a different circle of people, and I have my books. I am back to how I was at the beginning.”
On the work front, Anurag Kashyap will next direct the movie ‘Nishaanchi’. Earlier, he directed the film ‘Kennedy’, which even premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2024. The movie is still waiting for its release in India despite receiving rave reviews at several film festivals.
