Kamlesh Rawal a lawyer has filed the complaint who believes that the filmmaker has crossed the line. He further added that Kashyap has made repeated comments over the years to provoke or insult religious communities.

The controversy escalated when he criticized the censorship of his upcoming film Phule, a biopic on social reformer Jyotirao Phule. In that post, some of his words were seen as offensive towards Brahmins, which quickly led to backlash.

Kashyap later issued an apology but many people said the apology wasn’t enough. In his apology, Anurag admitted that he was angry and said things he shouldn’t have.

“I spoke badly about the entire Brahmin community,” he wrote on Instagram. “That community whose many people have been in my life, are still there and contribute a lot. Today, all of them are hurt by me. My family is hurt by me. Many intellectuals, whom I respect, are hurt by my anger and my way of speaking.” Kashyap added that he would work on managing his anger and be more careful with his words going forward “I will work on not letting this happen again. I will work on my anger. And if I have to discuss the issue, I will use the correct words. I hope you will forgive me,”

Despite this heartfelt message, Kashyap’s legal issues are far from over. Another complaint has been filed in Indore by a man named Anoop Shukla, who accused the filmmaker trying to cause hatred among communities. The complaint claims Kashyap’s words were not just offensive, but also dangerous to social harmony.
