At the Filmfare Awards Marathi 2025, Rajkummar Rao shared his excitement and nervousness about stepping into the shoes of cricketing legend Sourav Ganguly for his upcoming biopic. Speaking exclusively to Times Now, Rajkummar called the role a “big responsibility” but added that he is “very excited” and feels “relieved” that Ganguly himself approved of him portraying the role.
He mentioned, “That’s a big relief I think dada thought that I am the right fit to portray his life on screen, it’s a big responsibility. Very exciting, very challenging, little nervous but I think it is going to be fun.”
In a prior interview with NDTV, Sourav Ganguly had confirmed the casting, stating, “I think the right person is doing it… I’ll help him with everything. Rajkummar has been locked for the film. I don’t think anyone else can play me better than him.”

Meanwhile, Rajkummar is also in the spotlight for his action-thriller Maalik, which hit theatres on July 11. Directed by Pulkit, the film stars Prosenjit Chatterjee and Manushi Chhillar alongside Rao in pivotal roles.
The action drama sees Rajkummar in a gritty, high octane avatar alongside Manushi Chhillar. Set in Allahabad, 1988, Maalik dives into the gritty underworld, with Rao portraying a cunning, rowdy, and ruthlessly deadly gangster.
Though it opened with modest buzz, audience reactions have been divided.
