The Home Minister wrote letter to Congress leader in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury and to the Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge.

Since the commencement of the monsoon session on July 20, both Houses of Parliament have witnessed repeated adjournments due to the opposition’s demand for a comprehensive discussion on the recent violence in Manipur, along with a statement from Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Parliament. The situation has resulted in disruptions to the regular proceedings of the legislative sessions.

In response to the mounting demands for a discussion, Union Home Minister addressed the Lok Sabha, expressing the government’s willingness to engage in a dialogue on the issue concerning Manipur.

He also highlighted the sensitivity of the matter and called upon the opposition leaders to help create a conducive atmosphere for a meaningful and fruitful discussion.

Shah also took the matter to Twitter and wrote, “Today, I wrote to the opposition leaders of both houses, Shri @adhirrcinc Ji of Lok Sabha, and Shri @kharge Ji of Rajya Sabha, appealing to them for their invaluable cooperation in the discussion of the Manipur issue. The government is ready to discuss the issue of Manipur and seeks cooperation from all the parties, rising above party lines. I hope that all the parties will cooperate in resolving this important issue.”

However, Despite the ongoing protests by the opposition regarding their demands for a detailed discussion on the Manipur violence, the Lok Sabha proceeded with legislative business and passed the Multi-State Co-operative Societies (Amendment) Bill, 2022.
