Sharmistha Mukherjee daughter of Pranab Mukherjee expressed her heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for this gesture. She shared her feelings on social media, stating that she was deeply touched by the government’s decision, especially since they had not requested such an honor. She recalled her father’s belief that state honors should be offered rather than asked for.

In her message, she emphasized the significance of this memorial in honoring her father’s legacy and expressed her joy at this unexpected recognition. Sharmistha Mukherjee also reflected on the political landscape, mentioning past grievances regarding how her father’s passing was handled by the Congress party. This memorial will not only commemorate Pranab Mukherjee’s life but also stand as a symbol of respect for his service to India.

Pranab Mukherjee served as the 13th President of India from 2012 to 2017, marking a distinguished political career that spanned over five decades. A prominent leader in the Indian National Congress, he held several important ministerial roles, including that of Finance Minister from 2009 to 2012 before his presidential election. In recognition of his significant contributions to the nation, Mukherjee was awarded India’s highest civilian honor, the Bharat Ratna, in 2019 by his successor, President Ram Nath Kovind.
