The Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Bhupender Yadav announced on Thursday a national mass mobilisation campaign against plastic pollution leading up World Environment Day.
In a post on X, the Minister also noted that the campaign, called “One Nation, One Mission: End Plastic Pollution” would encourage citizens to incorporate more eco-friendly options.

On May 21, Bhupender Yadav kickstarted a national-level workshop in Udaipur dedicated to broad consultations with stakeholders to develop actionable strategies to revitalize the Aravalis, India’s oldest mountain range. Also present at the event was Sanjay Sharma, Minister for Forest and Environment, Government of Rajasthan.
According to a release from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, the workshop aimed to finalize a Detailed Action Plan for the restoration of the Aravalli Landscape. This high-level workshop on Aravalli Landscape Restoration and its biodiversity was coordinated by the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Changes along with the Rajasthan Forest Department to bring attention to the International Day for Biodiversity.
The purpose of the workshop was to complete an elaborate Action Plan, which drew on contributions from all field functionaries and practitioners, in order to enable this project to be launched across the entire aravalli range.
At the event, the Union Minister mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had inaugurated the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative, from Buddha Jayanti Park, located on the Delhi Ridge, part of the Aravallis, on World Environment Day last year.
He said the Aravalli Green Wall Project will both enrich the green cover and diveristy of the aravallis through afforestation, reforestation and repairing water bodies, as well as improve soil fertility, water availability and climate resilience and adaptive capacity in the region, along with creating dignified and meaningful livelihoods.
Yadav also urged all stakeholders in the four states to consider an inclusive “Whole of Government” and “Whole of Society” approach to restore the Aravallis. He noted that the successful implementation of the program is contingent upon implementing new ideas, technological interventions in planning and monitoring, and an emphasis on public awareness and participation.
The Minister mentioned approaches such as establishing seedling nurseries in every panchayat through a combination of MNREGA and CAMPA, using youth and MY Bharat volunteers to take part in the eco-restoration of the Aravallis, introducing the Green Credit Programme to conduct eco-restoration work in the Aravalli landscape, and restoring abandoned mines or to use stationary water-filled mine pits as a water source and habitat for wildlife, can also support these efforts.
Besides, developing Safaris, Nature Parks and Treks on Aravalli landscapes & biodiversity, clear invasive species and then plant native species and bamboo, use Eco-clubs and Eco-Task Forces to raise plantations/awareness, link Amrit Sarovars and waterbodies with Aravalli restoration programmes, creating a research & monitoring vertical under institutes like BSI and ZSI in taxonomy, and Annual Workshops are also useful efforts in this area, the Minister said.
