Delhi’s Patiala House Court has granted permission to 26/11 Mumbai Terror attack accused Tahawwur Rana to make a single phone call to his family. The call will be conducted under strict supervision and in accordance with Tihar jail regulations. Additionally, the court has sought a detailed status report on Rana’s health issues, which must be submitted within 10 days.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA), in its response to the jail authorities, had approved permission for this one-time phone call.
Furthermore, the court has also sought a detailed report from the jail authorities, clarifying their stance on whether Rana should be allowed regular phone calls in the future as per the Jail Manual.

Tahawwur Rana’s Judicial Custody Extended
Notably, on June 6, the Court had extended the judicial custody of 26/11 mastermind Tahawwur Rana. He will be produced in court next in July 9. Rana was presented before the court via a virtual mode due to security concerns. During the proceedings, his counsel raised concerns regarding his health. Noting the submissions, the court has directed Tihar authorities to submit a status report on the matter by June 9.
The Delhi Court, on June 4, had scheduled a hearing for June 9 to consider a plea filed by Rana, requesting permission to communicate with his family while in judicial custody. The Court sought a response from Tihar Jail authorities regarding Tahawwur Rana’s plea on May 28. Rana was remanded to judicial custody until June 6 by the Delhi court on May 9.
On May 1, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) was permitted by the court to collect voice and handwriting samples of Rana. The court approved NIA’s application, enabling further forensic examination as part of the agency’s ongoing investigation into Rana’s role in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.
