Drone Flying In Central Delhi Causes Stir Among Cops

A drone that was seen flying in the Patel Nagar area of central Delhi caused a stir among police personnel.

Amid the stringent security in the national capital due to G20 Summit, a drone that was seen flying in the Patel Nagar area of central Delhi caused a stir among police personnel. The police personnel scrambled and reached the location where the drone was discovered. Consequently, they found out that it was being used by a photographer to capture a birthday celebration.

The incident came to light on Friday evening and coincided with the city’s virtual lockdown ahead of the summit. After the control room detected a drone being flown in central Delhi, it alerted the police and an FIR was filed. Upon further investigation the original intent of why the drone was being flown in the area was discovered.

Subsequently, the officials registered a case under Section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of the IPC. Consequent to security purposes, the Delhi Police had prohibited flying of sub-conventional aerial platforms like paragliders, hang-gliders and hot air balloons from August 19 to September 12.

Given the arrival of world leaders for the G-20 Summit, the national capital was put under a security blanket. The national capital, particularly the New Delhi district, is currently being enveloped by over 50,000 security personnel, K9 dog squads, mounted police and the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF).
