The man was admitted to the government-run LNJP hospital. The Arvind Kejriwal government has asked three private hospitals in the city to set up isolation wards for suspected cases and confirmed patients of the disease.

According to the World Health Organization, monkeypox is a viral zoonosis. A virus that spreads from animals to humans. Its symptoms are similar to smallpox but are much less severe.

Symptoms include fever, sores on the body and swollen lymph nodes and can lead to complications. It is usually a self-limiting disease. Symptoms last for two to four weeks. The list of do’s and don’ts shared by the Union Health Ministry yesterday states that the infected person should be kept in isolation to prevent the spread of the virus. Do not share bedding, clothes or towels.

Till July 23, more than 16 thousand cases of monkeypox had been reported in 75 countries around the world, in view of which monkeypox has been declared a public health emergency by the World Health Organization (WHO).
