New Delhi: In a significant episode in the Parliament on Monday, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Girriraj Singh asked for filing a sedition case against Gandhi over the latter’s remarks ‘against India’ in United Kingdom.

He said, “Rahul Gandhi in London said that MPs were not allowed to speak in Parliament. This is an insult to Lok Sabha. The House speaker should take action against him on this statement. A sedition case should be registered against him for insulting our democracy.”

Meanwhile, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh called upon all the Parliamentarians to condemn Gandhi’s statement in United Kingdom.

In a conversation with British parliamentarians in London, Gandhi on March 6 said that India’s democratic institutions are under attack by the RSS and the BJP.

“Rahul Gandhi, who is a member of this House, insulted India in London. I demand that his statements should be condemned by all members of this House and he should be asked to apologise before the House,” said Rajnath Singh.

Gandhi had accused the central government of stifling the opposition’s voice in India. The Congress MP had said if the India’s democracy “crumbles” then it will be a “huge setback for the world”.

“India is a democracy three times the size of the US and three times the size of Europe,” he added.
