A man from Hisar in Haryana was arrested for allegedly raping, creating, uploading, and exchanging child sexual abuse online, officials said. Police said the suspect has been identified as Somnath, who was detected through an Interpol.
“In furtherance to its strong commitment in combating the menace of child sexual exploitation and bring the perpetrators to justice, CBI has arrested the accused from district Hisar, Haryana, on allegations of committing rape, penetrative sexual assault, etc on multiple minor victims,” the CBI said in a statement as quoted by HT.
On Tuesday, the agency found incriminating devices and took Somnath into custody from his Hisar home. He was accused of raping, sexually abusing, threatening, and using several children for pornography, according to the report. After discovering Somnath’s actions while looking through videos and photos on Interpol’s International Child Sexual Exploitation (ICSE) database, the agency said it filed a case on May 29.
“Demonstrating qualitative investigative skills, due diligence, and procedural efficiency, CBI detected CSAM [child sexual abuse material] images and videos from the Interpol’s ICSE database…” HT quoted CBI while adding that the cases were solved by the agency itself and no one approached to report the crime.
The CBI added that the material was also linked with the Google-generated cyber tipline reporting on child sexual exploitation and submitted to the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre.
Three months after the CBI began operation “Hawk” in March to break up cybercrime networks engaged in online child sex exploitation with global connections based on US data, Somnath was taken into custody.
