IMD Weather Update: Cold Wave Grips Northern States, Heavy Rain To Lash Tamil Nadu; Check Forecast For Other Cities

IMD has predicted dense fog conditions during late night and early morning hours in isolated pockets of Haryana, Chandigarh, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh till December 18. Also, West Bengal, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura may experience dense fog from Dec 17 to 19.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Rayalaseema from December 17 to 19. Additionally, heavy rain might, accompanied by thunderstorms & lightning may lash Kerala on December 18 and 19.

Weather Systems

As per IMD, a low-pressure formed over central parts of the South Bay of Bengal on December 16 is likely to become more marked and move west-northwestwards towards the Tamil Nadu coast in the next two days. The met body has also warned against a western disturbance seen as a trough in middle and upper tropospheric westerlies that runs roughly along Long. 62°E to the north of Lat. 28°N.

Cold Wave And Dense Fog Forecast

Severe cold wave conditions are very likely in isolated pockets of Himachal Pradesh from Dec 17 to 20. Additionally, the cold wave is also expected to impact Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad till December 22.

Additionally, Vidarbha, Chattisgarh, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, West Rajasthan, and Telangana may face severe cold wave conditions till the next few days.

Fishermen Warnings

Fishermen are advised not to venture into the Gulf of Mannar till Dec 19 and the Comorin area today. Also, IMD said they must avoid going to the South Bay of Bengal on the 17th and 18th Dec, the Sri Lanka Coast on the 17th, and the South Andhra Pradesh coast on 18th to 19th December.

IMD Weather Forecast For Delhi

Delhi experienced a dip in minimum temperature up to 7°C on Tuesday. The Air quality breached the 400 mark under the ‘severe’ category at 6 am today.

AQI: According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the following AQIs were reported in different parts of Delhi as of 7 am today: Okhla Phase 2 (435), Alipur (454), Rohini (464), ITO (436), Ashok Vihar (459), Wajipur (449), Shadipur (426), Mundka (436), Jahangirpuri (468), Narela (446), DTO (448), R.K. Puram (427), Anand Vihar (467), Pusa (419), and Punjabi Bagh (455).
