IMD Weather Update: A shift in weather patterns from cold waves to hot and humid conditions has been witnessed across the country. As we entered the second week of March, a change in weather trends has been reported in different parts of India. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts a heat wave over Gujarat, Saurashtra, and Kutch until the 12th of March and on the 10th over Konkan and Goa. Additionally, hot and humid weather is expected to impact Konkan and Goa on March 10 and 11 and Coastal Karnataka today.
Forecast For Rain/Snow
The Met Body predicts a fresh western disturbance, moving gradually toward eastwards, to impact the Western Himalayan Region starting from the 10th of March. Under its influence, fairly widespread light to moderate rain/snow, accompanied by thunderstorms & lightning, is expected over Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad from 10th-15th March.
According to IMD, isolated heavy rainfall/snowfall is very likely to lash the northern regions of Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad on 10th March. Meanwhile, Punjab,
Haryana and West Uttar Pradesh will receive isolated light to moderate rain, accompanied by thunderstorms on 12th & 13th March; West Rajasthan during 13th to 15th and East Rajasthan
on 15th March.
Cyclonic Circulation Over Northeast Bangladesh
IMD predicts a cyclonic circulation brewing over Northeast Bangladesh to bring increased scattered light to moderate rain over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura from 11th to 15th March. Additionally, easterly wave activity is expected to bring rain to Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal on the 10th and 11th and over Kerala, Mahe, Lakshadweep & South Interior Karnataka on 11th and 12th March. Arunachal Pradesh will receive isolated heavy rainfall from 11th to 13th March, and Sikkim will receive Isolated light to moderate rain/snow during the next 7 days.
Easterly Wave Activity
An easterly wave activity is expected to bring rain scattered to fairly widespread light/moderate rainfall over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, & Karaikal on the 10th and 11th and over Lakshadweep on the 11th &12th. Additionally, isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over south Tamil Nadu on the 11th and heavy rainfall over Kerala & Mahe on the 11th and 12th of March. Andaman & Nicobar Islands will receive scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall during the next 7 days.
