To enhance the safety and security of devotees during the ongoing Amarnath Yatra, the Indian Army has launched Operation SHIVA 2025. This comprehensive operation is being executed in close collaboration with the Civil Administration and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) to ensure the smooth conduct of the annual Amarnath Yatra.
With an increased focus on security amid rising threats from Pakistan-backed proxies following Operation Sindoor, this year’s initiative aims to establish a robust security framework along both the Northern and Southern Yatra routes.
Over 8,500 troops have been deployed for this high-tempo operation, supported by an array of advanced technological and operational resources. The security architecture includes a dynamic counter-terrorism grid, prophylactic security measures, and corridor protection strategies designed to safeguard the pilgrimage.
Key Elements Of Operation SHIVA 2025 Include
- A Counter-UAS grid featuring more than 50 C-UAS and Electronic Warfare systems to neutralize potential drone threats.
- Regular UAV missions and live monitoring of Yatra routes leading to the Holy Cave, ensuring continuous surveillance.
- Deployment of engineer task forces dedicated to bridge construction, track widening, and disaster mitigation efforts.
- A medical support system comprising over 150 doctors and medical personnel, two Advanced Dressing Stations, nine Medical Aid Posts, a 100-bed hospital, and 26 oxygen booths, all supported by 200,000 liters of oxygen.
- Signal companies ensuring seamless communication, EME detachments for technical assistance, and Bomb Detection and Disposal Squads ready for any emergency.
- Provision of emergency rations for 25,000 individuals, Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs), tent cities, water points, and essential equipment including bulldozers and excavators.
- Indian Army helicopters are on standby for rapid response to any contingencies.
Utilizing cutting-edge technology, the Indian Army is implementing live tracking of Yatra convoys between Jammu and the Holy Cave. High-resolution PTZ cameras and drone feeds maintain constant situational awareness, allowing for real-time updates on convoy movements to preempt potential threats. This meticulous approach ensures swift multi-agency coordination for effective security management throughout the pilgrimage route.
