Indigo joins Operation Kaveri; Nearly 2,100 Indians reached Jeddah, 1,600 returned to India

Operation Kaveri: Indigo Airlines has also joined the Central Government’s ‘Operation Kaveri’ to rescue the trapped Indians in violence-hit Sudan. Total 231 Indians were brought to India so far from Jeddah via Indigo flight.

Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan tweeted, “IndiGo joins #OperationKaveri. 231 Indians on the flight from Jeddah to New Delhi. With this 5th outbound flight, around 1600 have arrived or traveled by air to India. Happy journey. Our mission continues.”

IndiGo take on Operation Kaveri

Indigo Airlines said it has offered charter flights service in Operation Kaveri of the Government of India for the rescue of Indians from Sudan. The airlines had earlier expressed willingness to participate in the ongoing evacuation to evacuate Indians stranded in the strife-torn African country under ‘Operation Kaveri’.

Indigo said it is committed to support the central government’s mission to evacuate Indian nationals from Sudan. Earlier on Friday, Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan told that 2,100 Indians have reached Jeddah so far under ‘Operation Kaveri’.

INS Sumedha role in operation

Meanwhile, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said INS Sumedha, stationed at Port Sudan, has also left for Jeddah with 300 passengers from the trouble-torn country. This is the 13th batch of INS Sumedha, which is taking back Indians to Jeddah.

Earlier, on Friday, Indian Air Force C-130J evacuated the 10th and 11th batch of 135 passengers from Port Sudan to Jeddah. Earlier, the Sudanese army said it would extend the ceasefire for an additional 72 hours following mediation efforts by Saudi Arabia and the United States.
