Meerut Building Collapse: 10 Dead, Emergency Rescue Ongoing

The local police, district administration, and fire officials rushed to the spot to carry out emergency rescue operations in the affected area. 

In a disturbing incident, 10 people were found dead under debris on Saturday, after a building collapsed in Meerut’s Zakir Colony. On receiving information about the alarming event, the local police, district administration and fire officials rushed to the spot to carry out emergency rescue operations in the affected area.

Selva Kumari, Commissioner Meerut Division informed that around 8 to 10 are trapped under the rubble, and rescue operations are underway. She further stated that the army, NDRF, and SDRF have also been alarmed about the event.

Building Collapses Due To Heavy Rainfall

According to reports, the building within the jurisdiction of Lohia Nagar police station reportedly collapsed from heavy continuous rainfall in Meerut over the past three days. Kumari, SSP Vipin Tada, and City SP Ayush Vikram are overseeing the rescue efforts.

CM Yogi Adityanath Orders Proper Medical Treatment For Victims

According to ANI reports, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken cognizance of the incident in Meerut’s Zakir Colony. As of now, two individuals have been rescued and the other injured have been sent to the hospital. The Chief Minister has instructed the district officials to provide them proper medical treatment. He has also directed the officials to reach the spot & hasten the relief operations.

Light Rain And Darkness Complicates Access

However, the rescuers are facing significant challenges due to bad weather conditions, including light rain and darkness at the site. Additionally, the progress of the rescue teams is further complicated due to the narrow streets in the area, making access of larger machineries difficult.
