The Mumbai Police arrested a Shiv Sena leader in connection with an extortion case that was filed in December last year, a senior officer said.
The officer said Lalsingh Rajpurohit, ‘Vibhag Parmukh’ (division head) of Kandivali was arrested on March 9. Rajpurohit was associated with the party of the Shinde faction.
Later, the party expelled him after his arrest in the extortion case. An extortion case was registered on December 28, 2024, against him and his six associates on the charges of asking for extortion from a road construction contractor.
Last week, another case was filed against Rajpurohit for allegedly occupying a shop of a Marathi family in the Kandivali area. He is likely to be arrested in that case too. He forcibly occupied the shop of an elderly couple.
After his name surfaced in the case, Eknath Shinde ordered his expulsion from the party.
