PM Inaugurates New Nalanda University Campus In Bihar Constructed At A Cost Of Rs 1,700 Crore

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new campus of Nalanda University in Bihar, marking his first official visit to the state since starting his third term. The university's inauguration emphasized its role in fulfilling the educational needs of youth and reconnecting with India's historical heritage

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Wednesday, officially opened the new campus of Nalanda University. This visit marks his first official trip to the state since being sworn in for his third term as Prime Minister. Previously, he toured the ancient ruins of Nalanda University in Bihar, which were designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2016.

Prime Minister Modi, ahead of the inauguration of Nalanda University, emphasized on Wednesday that the institution would play a significant role in meeting the educational requirements of the youth, thereby revitalizing India’s historical connections.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Bihar Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, and Nalanda University Chancellor Arvind Panagariya.

Foreign envoys from a total of 17 countries, including Australia, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Laos, Mauritius, Myanmar, New Zealand, Portugal, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, and Vietnam, were also present at the event.

The campus is divided into two academic blocks, each containing 40 classrooms, providing a total seating capacity of approximately 1900. It includes two auditoriums, each capable of seating 300 people. The campus also features a student hostel with a capacity of around 550 individuals. Additional amenities include an international center, an auditorium that can accommodate up to 2000 people, a faculty club, and a sports complex, among others.
