Rain Fury: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday issued orange alert for several districts of Maharashtra including Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg for July 24.

However, Meteorological Department issued yellow alert for Mumbai.

The weather department issue orange alert when heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places in the region is predicted, while Yellow alert is issued for heavy rainfall.

The IMD, Mumbai issued a “Nowcast” warning at 13:00 Hrs, stating that moderate spells of rain are likely to occur at isolated places in Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Sindhudurg, Ratnagiri, and Raigad districts in the next 3-4 hours.

Following heavy rainfall, parts of Maharashtra experienced severe waterlogging in multiple areas on Saturday.

Bhiwandi witnessed severe waterlogging as well, with heavy rainfall leaving cars half submerged in water.

The weather department issued an orange alert for Sunday, cautioning about heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated areas of Palghar, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg districts.

Additionally, a yellow alert for heavy rainfall in isolated places was issued for Mumbai on the following day.

Amidst the heavy downpour, the Indian Air Force conducted a rescue operation in Yavatmal to assist several people stranded in Anand Nagar village due to flooding.

Yavatmal collector Amol Yedge reported a flood-like situation in various areas of the district, with Yavatmal receiving 240 mm of rain on that day.

“Thanks to the efforts of the State Disaster Response Force and the Indian Air Force, 219 stranded individuals were safely relocated,” Yavatmal collector said.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and his family members met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the national capital to discuss the flood and landslide situation caused by incessant rainfall in the state.

During the meeting, CM Shinde briefed PM Modi about the prevailing conditions and the impact of the natural disasters in the state.
