‘This Attack Could Not Occur Without Money’: FATF Slams Pahalgam Attack, Vows Stricter Scrutiny Of Terror Funding Networks

The watchdog said, "Terrorist attacks kill, maim and inspire fear around the world. The FATF notes with grave concern and condemns the brutal terrorist attack in Pahalgam on 22 April 2025. This, and other recent attacks, could not occur without money and the means to move funds between terrorist supporters."

After continuously highlighting the issue of Pakistan’s terror funding before the Financial Action Task Force (FATF),  the global money laundering and terrorist financing watchdog on Monday condemned the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22 while announcing that it would be enhancing scrutiny of how nations are combating terror financing.

According to PTI, the watchdog in a statement said, “Terrorist attacks kill, maim and inspire fear around the world. The FATF notes with grave concern and condemns the brutal terrorist attack in Pahalgam on 22 April 2025. This, and other recent attacks, could not occur without money and the means to move funds between terrorist supporters.”

The FATF’s remarks come after India relentlessly raised the issue before the global watchdog about how Pakistan has been diverting the funds to procure arms and sponsoring cross-border terrorism. India has been demanding to put Pakistan into “Grey-list”.

Operation Sindoor

India on May 7 executed Operation Sindoor, in which nine terror sites deep inside Pakistan were destroyed in retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 innocents were killed.

Last week, the United States Central Command (Centcom) commander, Army General Michael Kurilla, called Pakistan a “phenomenal partner in the world of counter-terrorism,” Dawn reported.

‘Pahalgam’s attack is a recent example of cross-border terrorism’

MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “See the record of Pakistan, of what Pakistan actually is very clear, we all know Pahalgam’s attack is only a recent example of cross-border terrorism. I would remind you that only recently, the conspirator, one of the conspirators of 26/11, Tahawwur Rana, was extradited from the United States to India. Obviously, none of us has forgotten that Pakistan gave shelter to Osama bin Laden. It is significant that the person and you would be aware that Dr Shakil Afridi, who helped locate Osama bin Laden, is still imprisoned by the Pakistani military.”
