Investigation Intensifies Following Pahalgam Attack: Eyewitness Accounts and High-Tech Mapping Underway

Earlier in the day, the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting convened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi was held at his residence.

In the wake of the recent terror attack in Baisaran, authorities have ramped up their investigation efforts, relying on eyewitness accounts and advanced technology to piece together the events of that fateful day. According to sources, some eyewitness’s have identified four terrorists involved in the incident, with two dressed in camouflage and the other two in civilian clothing. Notably, the witness remarked that two of the attackers did not appear to be Kashmiri, while the other two could potentially be locals.

The eyewitness further revealed to investigative agencies that only three of the assailants entered the meadow, while the fourth provided cover from outside the fenced area. This critical information has prompted the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to call on all individuals present during the attack to submit any videos or photographs taken at the site.

The NIA teams present in the Pahalgam has brought high-tech equipment to conduct 3D mapping of the Behsaran Valley. This advanced mapping will supplement ongoing questioning of suspects and help build a clearer picture of the attack’s execution.

One significant lead under investigation is the involvement of LeT handler Farooq Tedwa, who is currently based in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). Tedwa, who left his native Kupwara in 1990, is believed to have connections with top LeT commanders and may have facilitated support for the recent attack. His brother’s house was destroyed by an IED blast on April 27, adding a further layer of complexity to the investigation.

Search operations are ongoing across several locations, including Pahalgam, Hapatnar, Anantnag, and Dachigam’s upper reaches. To date, approximately 2,500 individuals have been questioned regarding the attack, with around 220 detained for further interrogation. The NIA and Jammu and Kashmir Police are actively pursuing additional suspects as part of their comprehensive investigation strategy.

To keep the attacker terrorists confined to Baisaran-HapatNaar forest range, forces have sealed three escape routes from Baisaran Valley leading to Ganderbal, Shopian, and Kokernag. Door-to-door search operations are being conducted in surrounding areas to locate potential accomplices. Fifteen Over Ground Workers (OGWs) suspected of providing logistical support to the attackers are currently under surveillance, with security forces determined to apprehend them swiftly and decode the whole Baisaran attack conspiracy.
