This satvik Sama Rice Khichdi is one of the delicious, healthy, and nutritious delicacies served during fasting. Now, let’s take a look at the recipe for Sama Rice Khichdi.
Ingredients
- 2 cups water
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1/2 cup Sama rice
- 1 green chili (optional
- chopped)
- 1 tbsp oil or ghee
- A pinch of Rock Salt (sendha namak)
- 1 medium potato (chopped)
Step By Step Guide
Wash The Sama Rice
First, rinse the rice thoroughly in water and soak for about 15–20 minutes. Now, drain the excess water.
Heat The Ghee/Oil
Next, take a medium-sized pan and place it over a medium flame. Now heat ghee or oil in a hot pan and add cumin seeds and green chilli.
Mix In Chopped Potatoes
In the next stage, toss the chopped potatoes for about 2-3 minutes, until they turn soft and golden.
Prepare The Sama Rice
Gently add the sama rice (pre-soaked and drained) in the pan. Keep stirring for a few minutes until it's well coated with spices and ghee/oil.
Add Water
After completing the above-mentioned steps, now add a pinch of rock salt (sendha namak) and 2 cups of water. Cover the pan with a tight lid and cook on low flame for the next 10-12 minutes. Make sure that all the ingredients are well combined, and check that the potatoes and rice are soft.
Serve The Dish
Once you have completed the steps as mentioned above, carefully remove the pan from the heat. Your sama rice khichdi is now ready to be served.
