England have confirmed their team for the first Test against India, which begins a new era for their red-ball series. After suffering a series of defeats in India 18 months back, the team’s make-up has changed a lot. The retirement of veteran James Anderson has affected the team, while Jonny Bairstow, Ben Foakes, and Ollie Robinson are missing from the squad. Stokes is still taking the lead as England tries to make amends for their defeat. India is realising a change, as famous players like R Ashwin, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma have announced their retirement. Shubman Gill is taking over as India’s Test captain for the first time.
Jamie Overton Recalled As England Reshuffle Squad Due To Injuries
The recall of Jamie Overton was unexpected, as Gus Atkinson was pulled out after getting a hamstring injury. With Jacob Bethell back in the side, England’s management must decide how to use their top-order players, and both Chris Woakes and Brydon Carse have recovered from their knocks to take part. The opening of the tournament will be at Headingley, then matches will move to Edgbaston, Lord’s, and Emirates Old Trafford, and the last venue will be the Kia Oval.
