Ajinkya Rahane Left Completely ‘Shocked’ After Rohit Sharma Announces Test Retirement, Says ‘I Wasn’t…’

In his Test career, Rohit Sharma has played 67 matches, scored 4301 runs at an average of 40.57. As the Indian Team captain he has led India in 24 tests with 12 wins, 9 losses and 3 draws.

Ajinkya Rahane, the current skipper of Kolkata Knight Riders was left shocked after hearing the news of Rohit Sharma’s retirement from Test cricket. Rahane was playing the match against Chennai Super Kings when Rohit Sharma had announced his sudden retirement from the Test format. The KKR Skipper added that he planned to call Rohit once he returned to the dressing room to personally speak with him about the development.

“Oh, is it?” When Rahane was told about Rohit Sharma’s retirement. “I didn’t know. I’m actually shocked. I was playing a game, so I wasn’t aware. But I just want to wish him the best.”

“He started in the middle order at No. 5 or 6 and then opened the innings. The way he adapted was amazing. He always looked to take on bowlers and play with freedom – that’s something he wanted others to do as well,” Rahane said.

“I’ll probably call him once I get back to the dressing room or send him a message,” Rahane added. “But I definitely want to congratulate him on a fantastic Test career.”

Rohit Sharma posted about his retirement on his Instagram Story, which read “Hello everyone, I would just like to share that I am retiring from Test cricket. It’s been an absolute honour to represent my country in whites. Thank you for all the love and support over the years. I will continue to represent India in the ODI format.”
