Former Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin was under the scanner for controversy during a Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2025 match between Dindigul Dragons and IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans on Sunday. Returning to the pitch after a lacklustre IPL 2025 season for Chennai Super Kings, Ashwin led Dindigul in what was to be a forgettable session.
Ravichandran Ashwin’s Dismissal
Starting the innings for Dindigul after losing the toss to Tiruppur captain Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore, Ashwin could not make any significant contribution with the bat. He was caught for 18 runs in the fifth over by Sai Kishore, who bowled him leg-before. But the dismissal did not sit well with the 38-year-old all-rounder. The 38-year-old all-rounder felt that the delivery had pitched outside leg stump and protested the on-field decision openly.
Ashwin Leaves The Field In Anger – WATCH
Clearly unsatisfied, he approached the female umpire and complained before storming away from the field. He was clearly frustrated as he released his showed it by banging his pads forcefully with the bat while walking towards the pavilion.

Dindigul Crumble Under Pressure
Ashwin’s premature exit saw a collapse of the Dindigul Dragons. The batting order could not get any traction and folded for a paltry 93 runs in just 16.2 overs. Only three of their batters could score double figures, with Shivam leading the way with 30 runs.
For Tiruppur, it was a clinical bowling performance. Right-arm pacer Esakkimuthu spearheaded the effort with four wickets, and Sai Kishore supported his captaincy with two key wickets.
Tiruppur Ease To Victory
Pursuing a modest total, Tiruppur made easy work of the run chase. Wicketkeeper-batter Tushar Raheja controlled the innings with his unbeaten 65, securing a nine-wicket win with almost eight overs remaining. The comprehensive performance reinforced Tiruppur’s control in the current TNPL season.
Ashwin’s Struggles Continue After Poor Run In IPL 2025
Ashwin’s form in recent times has been questioned. Back with Chennai Super Kings in the 2025 season of the IPL where he started his IPL career all the way back in 2009, he was unable to make much of an impact. In 9 games, he took only 7 wickets and scored only 33 runs with the bat. His patchy performances saw him get dropped from the playing XI on several occasions. With such figures, there is growing speculation that CSK might release the veteran campaigner before the next season.
