ENG Vs IND 3rd Test: Nightmare For England! Jasprit Bumrah Bowls Fearsome Deliveries In Nets Ahead Of Lord’s Test

Bumrah had a thorough 45-minute session in the nets, slowly turning up his pace and bowling with full intensity towards the end of the practice.

India’s speed king Jasprit Bumrah seemed in ominous form during India’s practice session before the third Test against England at Lord’s. After being rested during the second Test at Edgbaston – a move made to control his workload after a physically demanding 43.4-over spell in the series-opening match – Bumrah seems set to come back to action with fresh purpose.

Ahead of the tour commencement, head coach Gautam Gambhir had mentioned that Bumrah would be managed very cautiously and set to play only three of the five Tests. Though he didn’t name them, it’s now certain that the Lord’s Test will be one of them.

Bumrah had a thorough 45-minute session in the nets, slowly turning up his pace and bowling with full intensity towards the end of the practice. Interestingly, the speedster also practiced his batting, taking on left-arm spin and experimenting with his technique against throwdowns.

Bumrah’s comeback is likely to be at the cost of Prasidh Krishna, who has not been able to make any kind of an impression yet on the tour. Left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh was also spotted in the practice session with Bumrah and similarly ran a serious sweat in a nearly hour-long stint.

But some important players were rested from training, among them captain Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant, Akash Deep, and Mohammed Siraj.

While Bumrah rested during the Edgbaston Test, his stand-in Akash Deep seized his moment. The young seamer made waves with a match-winning performance, taking 4 for 88 in the first innings before claiming career-best match figures of 10 for 187 — the best ever by an Indian bowler at the ground.

With Akash Deep’s coming-of-age performance, Siraj’s consistency and Bumrah’s return, India will approach the Lord’s Test with a strong pace attack poised to take on England in their own den. The third and final Test of the series starts on July 10 and is set to be an electrifying encounter with the series tied 1-1.
