Sunil Gavaskar said, “Rohit Sharma deserves credit for the field setting. Axar also deserves credit”.

India suffered from these two dropped catches which followed each other rapidly during their Champions Trophy game against Pakistan. The key opportunity for Rana to catch Rizwan at midwicket disappeared when Rizwan hit across the line against Hardik Pandya. Rizwan’s dropped catch did not result in a crucial incident but shortly afterward Kuldeep dropped Saud Shakeel’s chance at long-on during Axar Patel’s delivery.

Rana faced a demanding task by moving sideways before jumping while extending his hands and Kuldeep needed to rapidly sprint to his left while lowering himself. International fielders should realize that these are typical opportunities which they need to embrace. Both missed catches produced frustration within the bowling staff especially from Hardik Pandya because he disapproved of Rana’s fielding performance. These two fielding mistakes present Shakeel with an opportunity to capitalize by changing the course of the match as India-Pakistan matches play out under tough pressure conditions.
