The playoff contest has become more competitive during the IPL 2025 league phase since Punjab Kings, Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Titans, and Delhi Capitals are participating in decisive matchups. The teams face deciding matches to establish their Playoff position.
Five of the most important upcoming IPL games
6th May: MI vs GT
8th May: PBKS vs DC
11th May: PBKS vs MI
11th May: DC vs GT
15th May: MI vs DC
The essential victory against LSG in Dharamsala lifted Punjab Kings (PBKS) back to fourth position in the standings. PBKS require two victories from their upcoming three games to secure qualification in the season. Their current 15 points from this year exceed their 2014 numbers. A single victory combined with a high net run rate or defeating MI could help PBKS qualify for the Top-2 position. Punjab Kings will face danger to reach the playoffs if they fail to win all three remaining matches, since analysts predict 16 points as the absolute minimum requirement.

The ongoing six-match winning run and the highest net run rate (1.274) of the league make the Mumbai Indians (MI) the current formidable team. The Gujarat Titans (GT) will conclude their matches with PBKS in an away fixture and GT and DC at home. A Top-2 finished position would become secure when they win all three of their upcoming matches. The team stands to qualify by passing two matches, although their Net Run Rate might influence their position among rivals. Nonetheless, they could exit from the playoffs by losing the final match or winning only one contest.

Gujarat Titans (GT) hold 14 points going into the last four fixtures of the season. The Gujarat Titans will play MI (away), DC (away), with their two home fixtures against LSG and CSK. A total of two victories alongside an impressive NRR would grant qualification status, while three victories would most likely give them a position in Qualifier 1. A solitary victory could not secure their spot in the playoffs.
With 12 points, Delhi Capitals currently hold position 12 among all teams, but they need to win four more matches to proceed to the playoffs. Winning all four guarantees qualification. Further match losses will significantly increase the challenges for their playoff qualification journey.
