Jay Shah Reacts After Taking Over As New ICC Chairman

BCCI secretary has reacted after he became the youngest chairman of the International Cricket Council.

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah took office as the youngest chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC) on December 1, 2024. Shah became the secretary of BCCI in 2019 and since then has done a lot for the development of Indian cricket and have made it the face of the world. The construction of the world’s largest cricket stadium, conduction of 2023 ODI World Cup and the organising the Indian Premier League 2020 amidst the worldwide Corona virus lockdown.

Jay Shah Reacts After Becoming Youngest ICC Chairman

Jay Shah has reacted after taking up the chair of the ICC chairman and shared tweets on his official ‘X’ handle. Shah mentioned that the main agenda during his tenure will be to focus on Test and women’s cricket. He said, “I am deeply honoured to begin my role as ICC Chair today. Cricket is a sport that unites millions across the globe, and this is a moment of immense responsibility and opportunity. As we enter a transformative phase for cricket, I am committed to working closely with the ICC team and Member countries to grow the game’s global footprint and create new avenues for its development.”

“From grassroots initiatives to marquee events, my vision is to make cricket accessible to more people while ensuring its evolution meets the aspirations of fans worldwide. Test cricket remains the pinnacle of the game, and I am dedicated to preserving its stature while enhancing its appeal to fans. Simultaneously, women’s cricket will be a cornerstone of our growth strategy as we take the sport to new horizons”, Jay Shah added.

Jay Shah brought several reforms to Indian cricket while working as the BCCI secretary. Shah started the Women’s Premier League and also levelled the salaries of both the men’s and women’s players. Under Shah’s tenure, the India women’s national cricket team also prioritised playing Test cricket and became only the third active nation to play the red-ball format in women’s cricket after England and Australia.
