After creating history at Edgbaston by winning the 2nd Test match of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 by 336 runs, India has climbed its way to the 3rd position of the WTC points table. With Shubman Gill’s generational innings, India claimed a convincing victory by 336 runs against England. The most surprising aspect of this victory was without Jasprit Bumrah, the world number 1 in Tests. Bumrah’s exclusion felt like it would cost India the second Test match as well, and this decision also raised several eyebrows over the decision. Surprisingly, India has lost 6 out of 9 Test matches that India played with star pacer Jasprit Bumrah on the side. The only 2 matches India won were the Perth Test during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and the Kanpur Test against Bangladesh.

A Team Effort
Apart from Gill, Ravindra Jadeja’s effort both in the first innings (89) and second innings (69*) took India to a commanding total. Yashasvi Jaiswal too laid a good hand with the bat with his 89. The fast bowlers too did not lag and supported the batters. Whereas Mohammad Siraj had claimed 6 wickets and Akash Deep took 4 wickets during the first innings, the latter was the orchestra leader of the bowling troops by taking 6 wickets whereas all the other bowlers added a single wicket to their bag.
Bumrah’s Injury History
Jasprit Bumrah has a history of injuries to the back, such as a 2019 stress fracture and 2022 back spasms, which resulted in surgery in 2023. He recently injured his back in January 2025 in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which kept him out of the Champions Trophy and postponed his return to the IPL. Although he was declared clinically fit, his return is a progressive rise in workload to reduce the chances of re-injury, especially a stress fracture.
