New Update On Diogo Jota’s Car Crash Emerges, Report Says ‘Excessive Speed Caused…’

Ten days before the fatal crash Diogo Jota married his longtime partner Rute Cardoso in an intimate ceremony held in Porto.

The Portuguese footballer Diogo Jota died in a fatal car crash and it happened because he was likely driving the car at high speed when his Lamborghini veered off the road and erupted in flames in Northwestern Spain. This is according to a new report released on Tuesday, July 8 by forensic findings.

“The forensics team is analysing the marks left by one of the car’s wheels on the asphalt that suggest a tyre burst and whether that and excessive speed caused the crash,” police said in a statement as mentioned by Reuters.

The car crash was absolutely tragic and not just Jota but his brother Andre Silva also died. Both the brothers were going by road as the doctors advised Jota not to travel by airplane due to the minor lung surgery he went through. Ten days before the fatal crash he married his longtime partner Rute Cardoso in an intimate ceremony held in Porto.

Diogo Jota had a remarkable career and played with top European clubs. He started his professional career with FC Porto and then had a brief stint with Atletico Madrid then he went on to gain success with Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League. In 2020 he signed with Liverpool and continued playing there. With over five seasons with the Reds, Jota had netted 25 goals and helped his team achieve significant domestic success which includes victories in the FA Cup and League Cup in 2021-22 season. Recently he was a part of Liverpool’s squad that won the Premier League title in 2023-24 campaign.

On the international stage, Jota earned 49 caps for Portugal and played a key role in their recent triumph at the 2025 UEFA Nations League, where the national team defeated Spain in the final to claim the trophy.
