India’s test Vice-Captain and wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant’s form has been a concern for the Indian selectors for the upcoming five-match test series against England. With just 269 runs from 14 games, Pant ended his IPL 2025 campaign in disappointment. Meanwhile, another young wicket-keeper batter, Dhruv Jurel, who is currently part of the India A squad, can be a potential replacement for Pant for the upcoming England series. Jurel is currently playing 2 unofficial 4-day Test matches against the England Lions and missed a potential century by 6 runs. He got dismissed on 94 runs by Ajeet Dale.

Jurel Might Be The Answer
Although Pant’s IPL campaign ended in disappointment, he would still be part of the playing XI for the couple of Test matches, but if he struggles to keep up with the scoreboard, Dhruv Jurel can be a potential replacement for him. Jurel’s IPL 2025 campaign has not been as astonishing as some would think it is. But the thing to note here is, he has always been there when his team needed him the most. Jurel has managed to smash 333 runs in IPL 2025. He was also part of the part of 18-member squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.
Test Career
In 4 Test matches, Dhruv Jurel has smashed 202 runs, with 90 being his highest score. He played with an impressive average of 40.40. He has shown promise with the bat during the unofficial Test series against Australia A by scoring 68 runs in the first match and 80 in the second. With scoring 94 runs in the first match against the England Lions, all the speculations around his selection might have been washed off.
Backing By Former Australian captain
Former Australia captain Tim Paine has also highlighted his ability to bat and manage his stance on bouncy pitches like the MCG. Backing of someone with such a high caliber, has definitely boosted Jurel’s confidence.
