Who Are Dark Storm?
Dark Storm team is a group of Pro Palestinian Hacktivist group, who are renowned for launching cyber attacks against entities they regard as Israel supporters. As per reports over the internet their activities include Distributed-Denial-of-Service attacks and other forms of Cyber Warfare. They use cyber warfare tactics are used by governments , infrastructure and organizations aligned with Israeli interest.
Dark Storm is also known for selling Cyber attack services for financial assistance, they target DDOS attacks on websites , and that’s not all the program also functions through database breaches as per their official telegram channel.
What Happened to X
As per detailed reports of the investigation of the attack on X, it has been revealed that the attack was a multi layered Distributed Denial of Service attack. In such attacks fake users feed in a overwhelming volume of fake request, leading to extensive pressure on the platform leading to a crash.
A simple traffic surge is often recognizable, but such attacks are often done through Hijacked devices, compromised computers, routers, and cameras. Such devices run the risk of being remotely controlled by hackers. The spread of sources, such attacks erupt from is so extensive that it often gets hard for the attacked platform to intercept a single source and work accordingly. X is yet to confirm whether the attack was from Dark Storm or not.
Dark Storm’s Previous Attacks
Previously the group had released threats against NATO and allies in February 2024, they issued ultimatums threatening attacks on NATO countries, Israel, and nations supporting Israel. Such threats have showcased the group’s ambition to disrupt critical services and government websites. The group has been associated with Pro – Russian hacktivist organizations as well. Expanding their operational reach. There have been several incidents where the group took responsibility for the attacks, a DDoS attack on John F Kennedy International Airport in October 2024 as well.
