Smartphones have gone through years of development and genesis in the past couple of decades, to reach the conventional designs that we are so used to today. While over the years several features such as the stylus and well as lanyard holes have disappeared. A few brands have kept the tradition alive. Samsung’s S-pen as well as Motorola’s G-stylus are the last few remnants of the Stylus, and as it appears Samsung might soon be walking away from the Stylus.
As per a slew of media reports, especially one by Android Authority, Samsung could be seriously considering changing its approach regarding the S-pen with the upcoming S 26 ultra. The report claims that a leaker has assured that Samsung would be removing the S-pen from the upcoming S26 ultra. Instead of the S pen Samsung would be employing the changes that have already surfaced on the Z fold and other latest devices.

Instead of developing an S-pen that could be slotted into the phone, the S pen would now have a separate digital pen that would have to be carried along the phone like that of an apple S-pen. Such changes would enable Samsung to build and equip the phone with a magnetic ring that supports Qi2 wireless charging. Since till now the S25 series had to be used with special rings that allowed for Magsafe application, now Samsung would be able to equip the phone with magnets internally.
The leaker has further clarified that Samsung would be using the technology that it has used on Galaxy Z Fold 7 for the upcoming S26 Ultra. The new phone would be launched with an active S-pen, that would not pop in and out of the slot in the phone chassis. Rather, it would have to be carried as is already the case with Samsung foldable.
