Nothing’s upcoming flagship the phone 3 is set for a launch on July 1, and before its upcoming launch date a constant slew of leaks and reveals have raised the anticipation for the device. While earlier leaks had revealed that the phone might be equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Elite, a new statement from CEO Carl Pei himself revealed that Nothing would not be using the Snapdragon 8 Elite for its flagship.
In a recent Podcast on the Nothing’s official Youtube channel, Carl Pei spoke about how Nothing has always used slightly older chipsets for their phone. But this time around they plan to use the latest chipset, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. Carl Pei furthered his that the nothing Phone 3 would be a worthy update over the Phone 2 that was the company’s previous flagship. He was aware of the contention the processor choice might lead to, he further replied.
To all such arguments, he answered that phone manufacturers often spike up phone specs in certain areas. Either they would spike the camera performance, performance numbers to seem superior. He further detailed that Nothing strives to ensure that the phone is able to offer a balanced user experience rather than offering a phone that does singular tasks well. Carl pei critiqued on the smartphone industry being hung up on the processor, he said that it’s the phones overall performance that matters rather than the processor themselves.

The 8s gen 4 has a CPU consists of Cortex -X4 (3.2 GHZ) three cortex- A720 cores at 3GHZ , two Cortex-A720 cores at 2.8Ghz and two Cortex-A720 Cores at 2GHZ. Such a distribution would help the processor churn out better performance than last year’s Snapdragon 8s Gen 3. But since the processor does not use Qualcomm’s powerful Oryon CPU cores, hence it would likely lag far behind the Snapdragon 8 Elite.
New GPU For The Processor
The new processor sports an Adreno GPU with new sliced architecture that debuted with the 8 Elite. The processor is known for its NPU that is 44% faster than the older Snapdragon 8s GEN 3 Chip, 4K/30fps low-light video real time segmentation for images and Video.
Bluetooth 6.0m Wi-Fi and XPAN, these allows you to use compatible earbuds and headphones over Wi-Fi instead of Bluetooth for improvise range and quality. the Bottom line of the whole scenario would be that the Nothing Phone 3 would lack in 8K video recording and 4K/120FPS slow motion capture and MM wave 5G. Since Carl has cleared the air regarding the use of 8s Gen 4 here are a few other phones with similar specs. The phone would compete against the likes of OnePlus 13 and a few others.
