A Texas woman has been officially recognized for having the world’s widest tongue (female). Brittany Lacayo’s tongue measures 7.90 cm (3.11 in) at its widest point, surpassing the width of a hockey puck and nearly matching the size of a credit card.
Her tongue is 2.5 cm (1 in) wider than it is long, with length measured from the tip to the middle of the closed top lip. Remarkably, the 7.90 cm width is equal to the average length of a woman’s entire tongue from the epiglottis.
This new record had stood unchallenged for 10 years. The previous record holder, Emily Schlenker (USA), had a tongue measuring 7.33 cm (2.89 in) wide.
Brittany, an attorney, was aware of her unusually large tongue since childhood, often joked about by her family. However, she never imagined it could be the widest in the world until her best friend showed her a video of Emily Schlenker. This inspired Brittany to measure her tongue.

When people first see her tongue, they react with shock and curiosity. Although she has never shared this record with her colleagues, she finds it both ‘neat and kind of funny.’

Brittany isn’t the only American attorney to break a record recently; Alexander Capogna set a new record for the most chest-to-ground push-ups in one hour with 1,246.
The record for the widest male tongue is 8.88 cm (3.49 in), held by Brian Thompson (USA). The previous male record holder was Byron Schlenker, Emily’s father.
