The popular concept of divorce parties abroad has slowly made its way into India as people seek to celebrate their failed relationships. In a recent viral video, a man named Manjeet from Haryana was seen throwing a unique celebration party following his divorce from his wife Komal. The couple tied the knot in 2020 but had a troubled relationship thereafter, which ultimately led to their divorce.
In the viral video, Manjeet posed with a mannequin that supposedly represented his ex-wife and cut multiple cakes. He even displayed a poster that contained his wedding picture, his marriage as well as divorce date.

While many social media users congratulated Manjeet for celebrating his freedom, others questioned the message that the celebrations sent out to other people about marriage and relationships. A user said, Ab khul kr zeendagi jio (Now live your life freely).” Another user supported Manjeet, saying, “Bhai khushi manani chahiye ki divorce ho gaya apka, hum toh abhi tak divorce ke liye court ke chakkar laga rahe hai (Brother, you should be happy that you are divorced, we are still making rounds of the court for divorce).”
Another user remarked, “Ab toh shaadi se vishwas hi uth gaya (I have lost faith in marriage now).” Meanwhile, a fourth user said, “Jab aese logo ki shaadi hoti hai toh inse apni biwi ki kadar nahi hoti fir bad mein rote hai (When such people get married, they do not respect their wives and then cry later).”
One user argued, “Divorce should not be celebrated at all. Yes, it frees you from a toxic relationship, liberates you from a narcissist, and is good for your mental health as it heals from the trauma. But if we start celebrating it, people will be afraid to get married. The number of proud single mothers is already on the rise. Absent father for children is trauma.”
In another similar viral video, a woman was seen celebrating as she cut a divorce cake and ripped off her wedding pictures at a divorce party. In the video, ‘Happy Divorce’ can be spotted written on a banner placed in the background while the woman cuts a cake. She was also seen cutting a red veil and tearing apart what appeared her wedding photos.
