In the Canadian elections, New Democratic Party leader Jagmeet Singh saw a major setback in the federal elections. The Khalistani elements maintained extensive power under the previous Trudeau government until the present situation showed complete transformation. The election results became a win-win situation for India after a major loss for Khalistani and Non Democratic Party leader Jagmeet Singh in the federal election.
The decline of the NDP has continued because of its loss among Indian voters, which led to Jagmeet’s defeat in Burnaby Central, British Columbia, as he placed third behind Wade Chang and James Yan. Jagmeet’s leadership poses a high risk that the NDP will lose its position as an official party in the Canadian House of Commons. The NDP supporter base has reduced by 12 percentage points since 2021, leaving only 6% of voters backing the party, while seven seats decreased from eighteen to seven in 2021.
Failure of the NDP to maintain its official House of Commons status will create significant barriers for Jagmeet’s political future while ending the ability of radical representatives to share their views through House procedures that Jagmeet previously accessed. The Liberals face a challenge to modify their stance on India under guidance from Mark Carney during a period when Trump is pursuing Canadian tax policies.
In a significant milestone for the Punjabi-Canadian community, a record 22 candidates of Punjabi origin have been elected to Canada’s House of Commons in the 2025 federal election. This marks a notable increase from 18 winners in 2021 and 20 in 2019. The election also saw a dramatic turnaround as the Liberal Party, under newly appointed Prime Minister Mark Carney, defied earlier forecasts of a Conservative landslide and made a remarkable comeback. Out of the 65 Punjabi-origin candidates in the race, 22 secured victories—many for the first time. Among the 16 incumbent Punjabi MPs who sought re-election, several were involved in head-to-head contests with other Punjabi candidates, particularly in swing regions like Brampton.
